Nicola holds an MA in Education and is licensed to teach in the British and Dutch systems. Her teaching background is in international-, bilingual- and state education, at primary and secondary level, and professional development for in-service and pre-service teachers working in a EFL/ESL/ELF & CLIL context. She specialises in curriculum development and educational change management at department and whole-institution level.

Projects (1988 - ):

  • co-developed international primary education in Maastricht, The Netherlands (1988 – 1994)
  • co-developed international English primary curriculum in the International Schools Curriculum Project (ISCP), later to become the International Baccalaureate Primary Programme (1991 – 1996)
  • developed English language assessment for use with primary school teachers of English, Aachen Land, Germany (1996 – 1998)
  • facilitated establishment of International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, Gymnasium Sankt Leonhard, Aachen, Germany (1998 - 2005)
  • co-developed CLIL education within Dutch state secondary education, Eijkhagencollege, Landgraaf, The Netherlands (2000 – 2010)
  • implemented Cambridge International Examinations curricula within Dutch bilingual state education: “Thinking Skills”, “Global Perspectives” (2006-2010)
  • facilitated Global Issues Network (GIN) project activities in international and state schools in Germany and The Netherlands (2004 – 2010)
  • developed ESL curriculum framework for use in international & bilingual education, at primary and secondary level
 

Currently:

  • lectures in teaching methodology (EFL/ ESL/ELF & CLIL) to pre-service teachers (2005 - )
  • co-project manages the “Speak Up!” Project, a network co-operation of RWTH Aachen University and local state secondary schools to promote spoken English in pupils aged 10-17 (2012 - )
